Me and Your Bubbles
"Me and Your Bubbles" is the game I made during the 2025 Global Game Jam. I led a team of six members, and within 48 hours of the Global Game Jam, we developed this 2D narrative platform game centered around the theme of "bubbles". I was responsible for organizing the team, managing the project, designing the core gameplay mechanics, and a portion of the development. By combining the concepts of "dialogue bubbles" and "bubbles", the players can experience the feeling of freely moving through chat records.
Design Thinking
Why bubble with chat?
Recur draws inspiration from roguelike classics such as Slay the Spire and other turn-based strategy games. We were fascinated by the way these games use randomness, player choice, and long-term planning to create tension and replayability. Our goal was to reimagine these core ideas by integrating them with a Tetris-style elimination mechanic, crafting a hybrid system that challenges both spatial reasoning and strategic thinking.
Why did we choose to combine bubbles and dialogue bubbles? We hope to create a "warm", "story behind", and "challenging" mini-game.
"Due to limited time, the game is small, but I hope it can convey a touching story."
By combining the concepts of bubbles and dialogue bubbles, it first fits the theme and makes the concept of bubbles narrative.
Bubbles themselves have the characteristics of being "beautiful and dreamy" yet "fragile", so when designing, I deliberately made this story revolve around these features. Life is fragile, and the journey is full of opportunities and challenges. The game experience, that is, the player's short journey itself, also reflects the characteristics of bubbles.
